A student and cadet from Bucks County is being celebrated for saving the life of a local resident by using the skills he has acquired. Dino Ciliberti wrote about the local student for the Yardley Patch.

Pennsbury High School junior and JROTC cadet Ben Primich has been recognized for his lifesaving efforts over the summer with a valor award.

Primich was presented with the Air Force Junior ROTC Silver Valor Award on Feb. 14 during a school ceremony. His family was there to see the young cadet receive the second-highest ribbon a cadet can earn in JROTC.

While he was at a wrestling camp last summer, Primich noticed a swimmer at the bottom of a pool who was not moving. Seeing that there were no lifeguards available, he jumped into the water and pulled the swimmer to safety.

He then started to apply lifesaving compressions as he waited for the emergency services to arrive at the scene. His actions potentially saved the individual’s life.

“This award is not given easily, and this is the only time we have given it,” said Retired U.S. Air Force Maj. James MacEachern, Pennsbury’s JROTC teacher. “It’s given in specific instances when there is verifiable proof of an act of valor.”
