Those eligible and interested have until Nov. 8 at 4:30 PM to apply to the Middletown Township Police Department.

Police in the Bucks County area are preparing to keep drunk drivers off the road during on of the most popular holidays of the year. Deanna Durante wrote about the crackdowns for NBC10 Philadelphia.

Law enforcement in Warrington Township wants the public to know they will be keeping the roads safe following the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. The police are already prepared to monitor Route 611 throughout the entire day for DUI drivers.

There will be at least one police checkpoint on the road and there are other efforts underway right now. The police have also said that it is not just drinking and driving they will be on the lookout for, but all impaired driving.

Drunk driving is becoming an increasingly dangerous problem in the area.

“Twenty-four percent more drivers are getting behind the wheel drunk,” said Jana Tidwell, of AAA Mid-Atlantic.

Drivers admit they will get behind their wheel if they think they are close to the legal limit or just above it, which often leads to avoidable accidents.

“In Pennsylvania, in 2021 there were 9220 impaired driving related crashes,” said Leo Hegarty, of the PA DUI Association.

While not everybody will be drunk driving on St. Patrick’s Day, police say they will be out there, on the lookout for those who are.
