The famous general made his way to Bucks County to celebrate a major birthday bash.

One of the country’s most important figures recently celebrated his birthday in a Bucks County town named one of his famous feats. Jeff Werner wrote about the celebration for the Newtown, PA Patch.

A mild winter day brought out a capacity crowd to Washington Crossing Historic Park on Sunday for a celebration of General George Washington’s 291st birthday with cake and music.

Washington, dressed in his blue and gold uniform, sliced through his red, white, and blue birthday cake made by the Caketeria in Newtown with a three-foot-long sword.

The audience responded with a rousing “Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!”

“This brings a tear to my heart to see so many people actually remember my birthday – I’ve had so many,” said Washington, portrayed by John Godzieba.

Godzieba added that Washington loved a good party and he also enjoyed dancing. Every year on his birthday, he celebrated with a Birth Night Ball.

“He was away from his home for eight years, but even when he was in Philadelphia and other cities his birthday was celebrated by the people of those cities who gave him a great party where he could dance the night away and get his mind off of work,” he said.

This year’s birthday party was organized by the Friends of Washington Crossing Historic Park.
