Trey Burton executes the Philly Special by throwing a perfect pass to the wide open Nick Foles in Super Bowl LII in 2018.

Trey Burton, who threw a touchdown pass in the Super Bowl for the Philadelphia Eagles did not feel comfortable repeating it in the following season for the Chicago Bears, writes Matt Breen for the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

Burton was prepared to do the Philly Special in the first two 2017 postseason games, but the play was never called. Then came the Super Bowl, and it was Burton’s time to shine. At the end of the first half, the Philly Special was called. Burton found an open Nick Foles in the corner of the end zone and helped his team enter halftime with a 10-point lead.

“I ran to the sidelines after celebrating with Nick in the end zone and Brent Celek ran up to me,” said Burton. “He grabbed my helmet and started shaking me saying, ‘You threw a touchdown in the Super Bowl.’ That’s when it clicked for me like holy crap.”

Burton joined the Bears in 2018, and midway through the season, he was asked to do a similar play for the new team. But anxiety stopped him from doing it.

“It just seemed too soon,” said Burton.
