In an effort to help the local environment, two state organizations have come together to improve the wetlands of Bucks County. Gregory Vellner wrote about the improvements for NewsBreak.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission, in collaboration with Ducks Unlimited Inc., have come together in an effort to improve 1,600 acres of wetland habitats on 61 state game lands across the state. One of the main areas being focused on is Bucks County.

Through the Pennsylvania Wetland Habitat Initiative, a $6 million investment, the organizations are aiming to improve existing spillways and levees over the next three years at sites in 31 counties in order to help the local duck population.

Bucks County areas that will be affected include Haycock, Springfield and Nockamixon townships.

“This is the largest conservation initiative Ducks Unlimited has ever been involved with in Pennsylvania, and we are excited to work with the Game Commission to improve wetland habitat statewide,” said DU Regional Biologist Jim Feaga.
