The mural has been in a New Jersey basement for 50 years.

A piece of art depicting one of Bucks County’s most important historical events has been unearthed, and it is now being restored. Vashti Harris wrote about the piece for nj.com.

The mural, titled ‘Washington Crossing the Delaware‘, remained in a basement for 50 years until it was located in 2021 in New Jersey. Historian Pat Millen found out about the mural while doing research for his book.

Now that it has been made public, the piece is being restored in order to keep it in pristine condition for all to enjoy for generations to come.

“I think this is most exciting because I grew up in the park, I love that park and I love the story of Washington Crossing because it’s part of my upbringing and part of my love of history,” Millen said.

“So, thinking of that one thing that can be saved that’ll be in the new museum one day, it gets me really excited.”
