2023 marks twenty years since LinkedIn launched. Over the two decades, thanks to new software tools, the networking site has gone through quite a few makeovers. Career experts say that the holidays can be the best time to start applying for jobs. What better way to start than a New Year spruce up for your LinkedIn profile? Here are seven reasons why it’s essential for 2023, according to Forbes contributor William Arruda.

Your goals are still fresh

As the year winds down, we often review our accomplishments and shortcomings. As the New Year approaches, we might have new goals. It’s good to make those changes on your profile tailored to those goals so you don’t forget as the year progresses.

LinkedIn is the first place people go to find information about someone

Recruiters and people in your professional network or industry will usually go to your LinkedIn profile first. A quick Google search of your name would normally yield a LinkedIn profile in the top three spots, writes Arruda.

A recession is imminent

We’ve been hearing of a looming recession for months, and many economists believe it’s still likely. Regardless of how severe it is, it’s good to be prepared.

Prepare for what’s next in your career

If there’s a new job, industry, or skill you want to pursue make sure your profile aligns with your aspirations.

Get up to speed

Whether it’s checking in on your professional network, making new connections, or seeing what jobs are out there, it’s good to stay in the loop.

Staying relevant

Creator Mode was originally designed for people to post long-form content on their profiles. However, you can use it to associate five hashtags, or topics with your profile so people know what you’re about.

It helps you stand out

There’s a multitude of ways to make your brand and LinkedIn profile unique. One of the features allows you to upload images and videos to your profile associated with your brand and career. This feature will allow recruiters to have a better idea of who you are.
