An important figure in Bucks County’s government was recently recognized for his work in helping residents throughout the area. Samantha Bambino wrote about the award for the Lower Bucks Times.

The Drug and Alcohol Service Providers Organization of Pennsylvania was recently recognized Bucks County Commissioner Gene DiGirolamo with Spirit of the Commonwealth Award. The award was presented to DiGirolamo during the annual meeting of the statewide coalition of drug and alcohol treatment providers.

“It’s hard to begin to find ways to say ‘thank you’ to former state Rep. Gene DiGirolamo,” said Deb Beck, executive director of DASPOP. “This man has done a ton of lifesaving work in addiction treatment.”

Beck added that through his work in the state legislature, DiGirolamo “led the battle” to increase statewide availability of the lifesaving drug naloxone.

In Bucks County, DiGirolamo along with his fellow commissioners continues to boost access to treatment and support organizations that offer care to those fighting addiction.

“It’s a great honor to me to receive this award for my work in drug addiction and helping to get people into the treatment they need,” said DiGirolamo.
