Yardley Native Discusses How He Landed His Role on ‘The Office’, Having Impostor Syndrome
Zach Woods, a Yardley native and a popular actor known for his roles in The Office, Silicon Valley, and Veep, got his lucky break when he met Allison Jones, a legendary comedy casting director. Marc Myers wrote about the local actor for The Wall Street Journal.
Woods, who had conquered childhood OCD that had him refer to himself as a “gangly Chicken Little,” had just gotten a role in a movie when Jones calked him to come to Los Angeles.
“When we met, she said, ‘I’m going to help you,’” recalled Woods. “It seemed like a weirdly kind thing for someone in Hollywood to say.”
She got him a role on The Office without him even having to audition. This created a problem for Woods. Since he had never acted on television before or attended drama school, he developed a strong case of imposter syndrome.
“Fortunately, I had taken a theater class at NYU with Anya Saffir, an ingenious theater director and acting teacher,” he said. “Whenever I had time off in L.A., I’d fly to New York and work with her. I still do.”
