The plans are set to keep the canal vibrant and well-maintained for the next decade.

Plans to conserve the Delaware Canal for the next decade have been released, and the blueprints will help keep Bucks County a beautiful place.

Friends of the Delaware Canal, a nonprofit that has worked to conserve the canal for four decades, recently announced the 2032 Plan, which details all operations that have been planned in order to conserve the large canal, which runs through a good portion of Bucks County.

“The 2032 Plan for the Delaware Canal is an important step for the Friends of the Delaware Canal and is our first major planning effort since the 1987 Master Plan for the Delaware Canal,” said Brett Webber, President of the Board of the Friends of the Delaware Canal.

“Now, in honor of this 40th Anniversary Year for the Friends, we established a plan to work with DCNR and the Delaware Canal State Park to identify strategic project opportunities that can be constructed or implemented over the course of the next ten years, culminating in the 200th Anniversary of the Delaware Canal.”

Drafts and further plan details will be discussed at a virtual open house, which will be held on Oct. 25 from 6-7:30 PM. Further details can be found here.

“These projects will build on the Friend’s success in getting physical projects done including signage & amenities and restoration of historic lock structures and authentic camelback bridges like Sommer’s Bridge, restored this year.”
