The YMCA of Bucks and Hunterdon Counties has taken a technological leap forward, to the delight of teens and adults area-wide. The opening of the Doylestown branch’s esports lounge marks the first public, organized, multiplayer video game competition site in the region.

The Doylestown tech mecca is open Mon.–Fri., 4:30–9:00 p.m. and Sat.–Sun., 12:006:00 p.m.

Players over the age of 12 are welcome on their own; players younger than that require a parent. Games will be restricted based on Entertainment Software Ratings Board age recommendations, as follows:

  • E: everyone
  • E10+: ages 10 and older
  • T: ages 13 and older
  • M: ages 17 and older

Parental permission is needed to override these guidelines.

The Y has committed to upholding players to standards of teamwork, leadership, online safety, individual growth, and equity.

Although the accent is on play, the technology is indeed a sport. And as such, the YMCA stresses its upsides, namely, boosts of problem-solving skills, sharpening of reaction times, learning to strategize, and practicing collaboration. Best, these upsides unfold in a safe, moderated, and inclusive environment.

To hone skills among the uninitiated, the Y will hold summer camps, ramping up beginners to become competent and confident enough for competition.

For interested players inhibited by financial issues at home, assistance is available for programs and memberships.
