Pa.’s oldest married couple were married 80 years ago in East Lansdowne, writes Evan Brandt for the Daily Times.

Chester and Martha Pish are both 99 and last week they celebrated their 80th wedding anniversary.

According to state Rep. Joe Ciresi, (D-146), that makes them “the oldest married couple in Pennsylvania, maybe in the country.”

The couple welcomed family, friends and public officials to their anniversary ceremony Friday.

“I never give her anything,” he joked when asked about an 80th-anniversary gift for Martha. “I don’t want to set any precedents. That way, she’s never disappointed.”

Her response. “He lies a lot.”

The Pishes were married May 23, 1942, at St. Philomena’s Church in East Lansdowne. They wed shortly before he was deployed to the Navy in World War II.

They have three children, seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, “and two more in the oven,” Martha said.

The couple was congratulated on the floor of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives May 25 by Rep. Ciresi and state Rep. Tim Hennessey, (R-26).

There was also a proclamation from Gov. Tom Wolf, U.S. Sen. Pat Toomey, U.S. Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-4), and Pottstown Mayor Stephanie Henrick.
