"The force is strong with this one..."

The Holiday House Pet Resort and Training Center in Doylestown is aptly named. To engage its guests, the staff fills the calendar with events themed to various holidays, making it one of the more imaginative members of the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce.

The business does much more than just mind pets whose owners are gone short term (during the workday) or long term (on vacation). It uses play as a strategic method to ensure that four-legged family members are physically, mentally, and socially active while onsite, rather than merely pining away the hours until they go home.

The activities calendar brims with canine and feline highlights.

Super Bowl Friday featured a furry-friend football game; Valentine’s Day saw a hearty presence of red accessories; St. Patrick’s Day saw pets proudly parading in emerald green.

But May’s themed activity was truly something out of this world.

Scheduled to coincide (somewhat) with Star Wars Day (May the fourth), the kennel held a May 12 pet prom.

The event included formal wear, a disco ball, and photo ops with Lord Darth Vader — well, a likeness anyway; his heavy breathing was likely to create a disturbance in some animals’ force.

It was more than just a party, however. The dance raised $3,000 for the Wilderz Wildlife Rescue & Rehabilitation Center in Willow Grove.

More information on the Holiday House Pet Resort is available through the website of the Central Bucks Chamber of Commerce.

Holiday House isn’t the only creative thinker to engage pets in the Star Wars mythology.
