Bucks County Community College: A Poet Who Hails from CB – West; Has Been Named the Area’s Best
Creative author Lauren Burchell, a junior at Central Bucks High School – West, has won the Bucks County Community College competition for skill and artistry with verse. The honor declares the student the 2022 High School Poet of the Year.
Burchell’s work rose to the top of more than 100 entries in the 35th edition of the annual contest. The program is administered by the college, under its poet laureate banner.
Burchell submitted three works: “One Fish, Two Fish, Girl Fish, Boy Fish,” “Secondary Succession,” and “An Ode to Selene.”
The distinction comes with $300 and the opportunity to read the work on May 14 at the college’s Newtown campus. Fellow competitors who placed in the runner’s-up positions will also attend:
- Rhianna Searle, George School
- Mira Kaufman Council Rock High School – North
- Pearl Smith, Neshaminy High School.
The annual Bucks County High School Poet of the Year contest is another way that Bucks County Community College contributes to the cultural heritage of the region.
