Hatboro-based Pretzel Pete has managed to quadruple its business over the past five years by focusing primarily on exporting American snacks around the globe, writes Lisa Dukart for The Business Journals.

Karl Brown founded SB Global Foods after visiting London and realizing that he was unable to find any hard pretzels in one of the most sophisticated cities in the world.

His goal was to export existing brands, but in case they did not decide to work with him, he also started his own product lines. He noticed certain flavor profiles gain prominence (most notably marshmallows and pretzels), so he created Rocky Mountain Marshmallows and eventually Pretzel Pete.

SB Global Foods and Rocky Mountain Marshmallows were ultimately acquired by Illinois-based Doūmak. From there, SB Global Foods’ team acts as the company’s exporting arm that sells products in 75 countries.

Karl Brown spun out seasoned pretzels segment in 2012 under the Pretzel Pete moniker. In 2016, he built out his own manufacturing facility in Hatboro that churns out millions of pretzels each year.

This has allowed the business “to grow substantially,” said Brown, noting that it has since quadrupled.
