A partnership between Manor College and The Galman Group of Jenkintown, Pa., has raised nearly $40,000 for the Ukrainian Federation of America.

The partnership between the college and property management firm began on March 15 when Galman Group Vice-Chairman Jerry Slipakoff reached out to Manor College to help raise money for those in need.

“Manor College is located right in our backyard in Jenkintown, and when we heard about all the great things they were doing to help Ukrainians, we immediately decided we would do everything we could to help out,” Slipakoff said.

Slipakoff felt especially moved to help due to his family’s personal ties with Ukraine. Slipakoff and his wife, Donna, adopted their beloved daughter, Sophia, from Ukraine in 2004 when she was 14 months old. The time spent in Ukraine with the adoption process created a lasting connection for the family.

They turned to The Galman Group’s network of friends, staff, and residents for their support and made a personal commitment to match up to $15,000 — a goal achieved in less than two weeks.

“We are extremely grateful to Manor College for their commitment, and we are honored to be partners,” Slipakoff said. “We proudly stand with Ukraine and will continue to seek every opportunity to help those most in need.”

Since the conflict between Russia and Ukraine began in February, Manor College continued to remain loyal to its Ukrainian roots. The institution officially denounced the war on February 24 and set up a webpage helping local community members support Ukraine.

“The devastation of Russia’s war in Ukraine has impacted people around the globe,” Manor College President Dr. Jonathan Peri said. “Many local Ukrainians have watched the horrific acts of daily violence against their families and friends, seeking every opportunity to help those with all means possible. We’d like to thank Jerry, Donna and The Galman Group for their generosity and support towards our efforts.”

The Slipakoff family also has ties to Manor College — Donna attended the college, as did other family members. With such a connection, aiding the institution in its goal to raise money for the Ukrainian Federation of America was an easy decision.

The Ukrainian Federation of America is an outreach organization helping Ukrainians find safety, shelter, food and other resources during these troubled times.

In addition to the partnership with The Galman Group, Manor College has raised more than $8,000 through its Ukrainian Heritage Studies Center’s humanitarian relief.

Manor College was founded in 1947 by the Sisters of Saint Basil the Great, a Ukrainian religious order.
