Gene and Elaine Williams, of West Chester, are helping young athletes throughout the Philadelphia region connect with private coaches through their company, Athletes Untapped, writes Kevin Riordan for The Philadelphia Inquirer. 

The two are both athletes and have technology in common.

Elaine played soccer for Bishop Shanahan High School and Temple University. Meanwhile, Gene played basketball at St. Joe’s Prep and Johns Hopkins University. Elaine is a project manager for a software company, while Gene is an executive at a real estate technology firm. 

“Athletes Untapped really stems from our love of being in sports and playing for a team,” said Elaine. 

Gene founded the online platform and serves as its CEO, while Elaine was essential in building the platform. She also works as one of the private soccer coaches. The pair’s target market is families with promising young athletes between ages 7 to 16. 

“Our mission embodies everything positive about sports: building confidence, teaching responsibility, and instilling the value of hard work,” said Gene. 

The coaches are independent contractors who set their own rates, usually ranging between $40 and $70 per hour.
