The Ukrainian Selfreliance Federal Credit Union in Feasterville-Trevose is doing its part for the people in its homeland. Nina Baratti reported its current altruistic business practice for KYW Newsradio.

The financial institution has waived transfer fees for members sending monetary donations to the war-torn county. It is also acting as a liaison to ensure the support reaches intended recipients in eastern Europe.

Vlad and Nataliya Uchenuk have been using the arrangement to funnel resources to family threatened abroad.

“Time is of the essence, because nobody knows when this is going to end,” said Vlad.

Credit union member Paul Mizak has also contributed, funding shipments of medical supplies and protective gear.

“I know people are sacrificing so much more than I am,” he said. “And I want to be able to help in any way that I can.”

The generosity of members has impressed Selfreliance human resources employee Laura Naumenko. “I actually get goosebumps thinking about it,” she said. “There is more good in the world. And if we do more good like the world is showing, I truly think we will overcome.”
