State Sen. Robert “Tommy” Tomlinson has announced his exit from Harrisburg. The Republican’s decision, posted on Facebook yesterday, caps nearly 30 years of service to Bucks County’s Sixth District, which covers Bensalem, Bristol, Hulmeville, Ivyland, Langhorne, Langhorne Manor, Lower Southampton, Middletown, Northampton, Penndel, Warwick, and Wrightstown.

“When I look back to that first senate race in 1994, I have to admit that I am still somewhat amazed that we won,” Tomlinson wrote. “Even more humbling is the fact that you all chose to send me back to the Senate six more times.”

Tomlinson cited several of his prominent initiatives, including veteran exemptions from property taxes, the bipartisan effort to expand the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and increasing DUI penalties.

“Probably our most impactful work,” Tomlinson wrote, “is the legalization of gaming.”

He noted the industry’s local economic upsides:

  • Over $17 billion in tax revenue
  • 20,000 full-time good paying jobs
  • $150 million to Bensalem itself
  • Almost $50 million to surrounding communities

In summing up, Tomlinson acknowledged his collaborators, colleagues, and constituents.

“I would like to thank all of you, the people of Bucks County. It has truly been a pleasure to serve you. While I look forward to the next chapter of my life, I will always be honored to have been your Senator,” Sen. Tommy Tomlinson posted.
