One of Bucks County's most walkable communities has been cited by Philadelphia Magazine.

Walkable suburbs and neighborhoods are currently all the rage in the real estate world, as developers rush to add foot-friendly amenities to car-centric places. Meanwhile Phila.-area towns — including those in Bucks County — were built with pedestrians in mind from their very beginnings, reports Philadelphia Magazine.

Walk Score, a real-estate industry standard, rates locations’ walkability based on the distance to amenities such as grocery stores, schools, parks, restaurants, and shops.

By that measure, Doylestown is one of the 14 most foot-friendly area suburbs.

Thanks to its air of a small town in the middle of the bucolic countryside — along with a well-preserved historic downtown — Doylestown received a high Walk Score of 96. This score makes it the most stroll-worthy suburb in the region.

The borough boasts four museums (including the James A. Michener Art Museum), an Art Deco-style County Theater, and an animated shopping and dining scene. Henry Mercer’s reinforced-concrete castle, Fonthill, is also well worth the trip.

The median home sale price in Doylestown is $650,500, while the average apartment is $1,671 a month.
