EPAM Systems, the Newtown-based company with software engineers in Ukraine, is responding quickly to the international danger to both its workforce and its ongoing ability to conduct business. Joseph N. DiStefano, in The Philadelphia Inquirer, reported the corporate concern for the welfare of all.

The software-outsourcing firm has about 14,000 employees in Ukraine. Several thousand more work in nearby Belarus and Russia. Concern for these professionals increased drastically with the recent invasion by Russia.

The company’s “highest priority is the safety and security of its employees and their families in Ukraine,” read a corporate statement. It is “working to relocate its employees to lower-risk locations in Ukraine and neighboring countries.”

EPAM’s unsteady future, threatened by a geopolitical situation not likely to reach a peaceful situation soon, sent its stock price tumbling. News of its inability to predict financial results for the year, owing to the “military actions in Ukraine,” precipitated a 45.68 percent stock drop.

The loss represents a series of hits to the Newtown company’s finances, fallout from Russia’s actions. Since November 2021, the firm has seen its investor value cut more by more than $35 billion.
