A world champion Irish dancer and Havertown native came home to the Philadelphia region to perform Friday night, reports Alicia Vitarelli for 6abc.com.

Ali Doughty was on stage at the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, performing with the Trinity Irish Dance Company.

The Chicago-based company performed traditional Irish dances with modern innovations.

Sixteen company dancers — accompanied by a fiddle player, guitarist, bass player, and drummer — offered nine dance pieces, and three musical numbers without dance, according to the Daily Times.

She also performed two shows Saturday at Penn Live Arts.

Doughty is performing her solo work “Sparks.”

“I’ve always wanted to perform in Philly for my family,” Doughty says. “A lot of family members haven’t seen me dance yet in a show, so it’s super exciting to be back home.”

Doughty has been dancing since she was eight years old. She trained at the McDade-Cara School of Irish Dance in Havertown.

“The shows are dedicated to my late grandparents that grew up in this area as well, so that’s very special to me,” she continued.

Doughty will also offer an Irish dance master class Saturday morning.

Doughty has performed in the U.S. and abroad.
