Dr. Scott Levy, Chief Medical Director of Doylestown Hospital, offers good news this week but still advises caution.

Dr. Scott Levy’s weekly update on COVID-19 in Bucks County showed definite progress in beating back the pandemic. But the Doylestown Hospital chief medical director also said that continued caution is wise.

He opened with a brief and encouraging overview of his census: four COVID patients currently in house; no patients currently in intensive care; no patients currently on a ventilator.

“We’ve seen the counts dramatically drop, and we’ve seen the severity of illness drop,” he explained.

Looking ahead, Dr. Levy sees the day when this pandemic evolves into an endemic, meaning more localized geographically. He theorizes, for example, lingering caseloads in Asia and Africa, where various factors have limited vaccinations.

Closer to home, however, Dr. Levy still recommended “people use their smarts.” Large crowds are still risky, he reminded.

“Even at the hospital, we see every three or four days a bit of a blip in our count as a family comes in with a large number of individuals who have been exposed to the virus,” he said.

“Do your best not to be part of one of those clusters.

“Because this is still a serious disease.”

Dr. Levy’s full video recap can be seen at the Doylestown Health Facebook page.
