Affluent residents of Gladwyne are up in arms over Rosette, a new luxury senior living facility that will serve as a home to eight people, writes Victor Fiorillo for Philadelphia Magazine.

Seniors living at Rosette will receive more personal attention and care, owing to the facility’s smaller size.

“We are here to provide a level of care that you can’t get anywhere else in the region,” said Thérèse Farrow Southwell, who owns and operates Rosette with Danielle Redenbaugh.

However neighbors — who include Brett Hamilton, a COO of a billion-dollar real estate investment firm, and Birgit Hottenrott, wife of Philadelphia Orchestra President and CEO Matías Tarnopolsky — are not too happy about this new addition to the community.

They have taken to vocalizing their opinions with numerous lawn signs reading: “Stop Rosette.” The signs increase in number as they get closer to the senior home.

But deterring potential clients may residents’ only course of action. Legally, the facility complies with a township ordinance allowing group homes for as few as eight elderly people, according to Lower Merion Township Commissioner Josh Grimes.
