Daybreak Farm Muffin Co. Makes Equestrian Treats That Fortify Animal Appetites and Workers’ Self Esteem

By

Daybreak Farm Muffin Co., Bedminster Township, makes high-quality equestrian treats (think nutritious “dog” biscuits for horses). But as profiled by 6abc, it does so using high-quality employees who benefit greatly from the experience.

Kim Maychuk, owner of the bakery, saw the pandemic shutting down work opportunities for Bucks County’s special-needs employees. She therefore decided to fold into her business model a program to provide her own open-door policy to unique workers requiring a chance.

The new hires have done spectacularly.

Nicole Maychuk, bakery manager (and Kim’s daughter), assessed their impact: “When I see the kids come in, they get right to work and they have smiles on their faces. And at the end of the day, they leave and they high-five, and they say, ‘I did a good job today? You did an awesome job!’

“We can’t do it without them, there’s no way,” she concluded.

Kim summed up the program, saying, “It’s just a small little bakery in a small little town. But I feel like we can shine our light and do some good work. So that’s what keeps us going.”
