Famed chef Jose Garces is bringing a new restaurant to the Main Line in early May, writes Vince Carey for the Daily Times.

Garces, known as one of the Food Network’s Iron Chef America, is the force behind some of the most popular and highly rated restaurants in the country, and he’s now bringing his first restaurant to suburban Philadelphia.

Buena Onda, a taqueria inspired by Mexico’s Baja Peninsula, is opening at 200 Radnor Chester Road in Radnor just in time for Cinco de Mayo.

Garces has already seen success with Village Whiskey, with its whiskey and burger theme; and Amada, his Spanish-themed restaurant that opened in Philadelphia in 2005.

Now, he’s hoping his Buena Onda brand will catch fire on the Main Line.

“It’s a long time in the making,” Garces said. “ I’m glad to be going there. Going with our fast, casual taqueria concept. It’s just growing.”

The chef had been looking at suburban locations for a while and decided to settle along the Main Line.

“We have a great guest base,” he said. “People just know who we are, and it just made a lot of sense.”
