The crop yields of Carversville Farm Foundation are high quality enough to go to some of the most esteemed restaurant kitchens in Bucks County. But instead, they go to its neediest residents. Natasha Brown covered the agricultural altruism for CBS3 Philly.

Of the vegetables, beef, poultry, and eggs raised onsite, 90 percent is donated to area soup kitchens and food pantries.

Moreover, cooks serving those boots-on-the-ground food outreaches order what they want, filling out weekly menus much like their restaurant counterparts.

The local needs are plenty, but the farm’s resources are wide.

Across its 350 acres, the staff cultivates more than 100 types of vegetables. The brood of hens — 1,200 strong — averages a thousand eggs daily.

“We get orders every week,” said Stephanie Zimmermann-Schmitt, the vegetable production manager. “I tell partners what we have available, and they can order from that list.”

Then, the food is delivered from the farm.

“Farming can be a grind at times, but knowing that these folks are so reliant on what we are growing, it’s really important to us to get the food out,” Zimmermann-Schmitt concluded.
