Mensa International Admits Quakertown Five-Year-Old to Its Worldwide Rank of High-IQ Smarties

By

Mensa International, the global society for high-IQ individuals, has recognized the outstanding intelligence of five-year-old Kipton Hardcastle from Quakertown. Ashley Johnson covered this remarkable kindergartener’s achievement for 6abc.

Hardcastle earned his way into this elite organization by surpassing its threshold IQ test (130) by eight points.

The U.S. is well represented in Mensa, with more than 50,000 American members. However, children are a rarity. Hardcastle is one of only 107 five-year-olds to be included.

He’s been flexing his brain for quite a while. Hardcastle’s parents report that he taught himself to read last year, at age four.

“When he was little, he knew all his letters and numbers. He could point and read signs out in public,” said Dana, Kipton’s mother.

As a toddler, Kipton could name countries on a map.

His father, Rob, said he’s always been a voracious reader. “He would read airplane magazines. He would be sitting there giving planes names. He was like one and a half.”

When asked if he thought he was smart, Kipton said, “Yes. Because I figure things out.”

More on Kipton Hardcastle’s membership in Mensa International is at 6abc.
