With the First Day of Winter Only Weeks Away, Colorful Vistas at Bowman’s Hill Tower Fade One Leaf at a Time

Mother Nature’s not going to wait much longer. Between her shorter daylight hours and frosty overnights, acres of Bucks County trees will soon be bare. That makes these weeks of November ideal for an outing to Bowman’s Hill Tower in New Hope, reports Matteo Iadonisi for 6abc.

“The view is wonderful. And the history of it is really great, too,” said Jackie Strohlein, after climbing the 125-foot tall tower.

Built between 1929 and 1930, the structure was meant to honor George Washington’s crossing of the Delaware River.

“We believe they used the hill as a lookout,” said Gaetano Sava, the Visitor Services Coordinator with the Friends of Washington Crossing Park.

Particularly during the peak of fall foliage, families flock to the top floor to see a sea of red, yellow, and green colors popping from the trees. Many locals make it a tradition.

“First time I came up here, I was a teenager,” said Marion Hickman from Fairless Hills. “A lot easier going up the steps then.”

Views from above include the bend of the Delaware River and the Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve.

A separate admission is required for that nearby site, but its winding trails are great for close-proximity leaf-peeping.

“It’s got all these little nooks and crannies, which is pretty cool,” said Joann Sulak from Hatfield.
