The African American Museum of Bucks County (AAMBC), which existed as a travelling exhibit, is setting down roots. Samantha Bambino, in the Lower Bucks Times, reported its upcoming fundraiser to support the permanent spot.

A “Build our Dream” cocktail reception on Dec. 2 at Parx will gather funds to turn Boone Farm in Middletown Township into the AAMBC’s physical location.

The AAMBC was the brainchild of Harvey Spencer, chairman of the board of trustees for First Baptist Church of Langhorne. He sought to preserve the story of African Americans in the area, as well as their artifacts.

He unfortunately will not see the fruits of his labor, having passed away soon after expressing his vision for the museum’s forever home.

Current AAMBC president Linda Salley, however, has taken up the cause. She forecasts a late 2022 move-in day at Boone Farm.

The locale is apt, as many Bucks County African Americans worked there after migrating northward.

“The wish of a dying man was heard and is coming full circle,” Salley said. “Our museum, as small as it may be, will complete the story of all the museums that are on display today in Bucks County.

“When you walk into those museums, they’re beautiful. They tell the story of every walk of people who came through. But they don’t tell our story. Now, the whole story will be told.”

More information on the African American Museum of Bucks County fundraising event is at the Lower Bucks Times.
