From Dragon Boat Races to Oktoberfests, This Newtown Woman Creatively Raises Funds for Pancreatic Cancer
Christine Edmonds of Newtown sees fundraising potential in just about every event you can name. In her effort to raise money for pancreatic cancer research, she’s transformed numerous local outings into charitable events. Todd Haas reported her creative and heartfelt efforts for 6abc.
Pancreatic cancer is, for Edmonds, a disease that cuts to the quick. She has lost two close loved ones to its spread: her sister-in-law and her husband.
Edmonds said they both were diagnosed when they were 49-years-old and passed away at 51-years-old.
“Which is so young, you know. Too young,” said Edmonds.
Soon after, several neighbors competed in a dragon boat race, and the team was named “A Love For Life,” in her husband’s honor.
That’s where everything started.
“And it got bigger and bigger. I started having wine tastings, we’ve had Oktoberfests. Every dollar of what we raise goes to Penn to fund pancreatic cancer research,” said Edmonds.
“Our mission statement is celebrating life and friendship and adventure,” she said.
