Bucks County has made a Pennsylvania list of best places to retire.

Once a professional career is over and it’s time to choose a landing spot for that golden parachute, Bucks County emerges as one of Pennsylvania’s best options. Stacker, compiling a list from Niche data, analyzed the factors that contribute to our being one of the best locations to retire.

The metrics that led to Bucks County’s recognition were:

  • Cost of living
  • Healthcare
  • Recreation
  • Weather and climate

Bucks County came in at No. 20.

With its population of 626,806, the county has a median home value of $330,600 and a median rent of $1,228. Homeowners make up 77 percent of the county’s population, while 23 percent rent their homes.

The median household income is $89,139.

Bucks County also has an enviably low crime rate. Incidents of both violent and property crime are significantly below national averages.

Location is critical for retirees, Stacker reports. A best spot must meet a multitude of preferences and needs: active downtown areas, access to parks, affordable home prices, and cultural amenities like museums and theaters.

With so many local options to choose from, Stacker recommended three Bucks County communities as being especially appropriate for retirees:

  • Woodside, which it rated as A+
  • Newtown Grant, also scored at A+
  • Buckingham Township, which earned an A
