Big Bird and company are migrating the Sesame Place theme park concept from Langhorne to San Diego. InterPark, an industry publication from the UK, spelled out the details.

The familiar, familial Sesame Street characters — including Big Bird, Count von Count, Elmo, Cookie Monster, Rosita, and Murray — are taking up residence at the former Aquatica San Diego.

The site, owned and operated by SeaWorld, featured a variety of water attractions such as high-speed slides and slower tubing courses. It closed permanently at the end of its summer 2021 season.

Over the next six months, the Sesame Place design team will overlay the existing slides and wave pool — one of the largest in Southern California — with familiar theming from the PBS educational icon.

The location will also feature seven additional rides, not involving water. They include a family coaster that will have riders competing in Super Grover’s Box Car Derby and an interactive musical play area.

Being duplicated from the park’s Langhorne flagship location is the popular Sesame Street Party Parade.

Sesame Place San Diego becomes the brand’s third theme park, joining the one in Bucks County and one in Orlando.

Construction on the new elements is expected to finish in time for a March 2022 opening.
