John Barchard and Vince Quinn both left their producer-host roles at SportsRadio 94WIP to instead pass their accumulated knowledge to a new corps of broadcasters. Their Feasterville company, Last Out Media, helps podcasters with both content and finances. Jeff Blumenthal recorded their progress for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

COVID-19 initially put a damper on national podcast ratings, according to Edison Research. Lockdowns across the country limited common podcast-listening activities such as workouts and commutes.

As the health crisis stretched forward, however, listeners began returning.

But despite upticks in audience levels, the SportsRadio veterans knew that the pandemic made this professional move risky. They braved the waters anyway and set forth.

And thus far, their gamble is paying off.

Barchard helps novice broadcasters identify topics that fit their expertise and then leverage them with narrative overlays. He says an ideal podcaster can be “anyone who has a story to tell.”

The company has already shepherded several shows to success. They include “The Realest Podcast Ever,” an unscripted take on current events, culture, news, and entertainment.

Quinn and Barchard are also getting behind the mic again themselves. They’re launching an Eagles podcast, “Bell and the Birdman,” from a studio at Villa Capri Sports Bar and Pizzeria in Doylestown.

More on Last Out Media is at the Philadelphia Business Journal.
