On a 40-acre stretch of land in Perkasie, rows of vegetables and beehives are doing more than growing food; they’re growing a movement, reports Hank Flynn for Fox 29.
Still Rise Farms is gearing up to host a Juneteenth celebration this Friday, but the farm’s ambitions stretch far beyond a single day of programming.
The farm was founded by Dr. Monique Gary, a breast cancer surgeon who envisioned the property as a “living learning laboratory,” a place where nutrition, gardening, and wellness intersect in ways a clinic never could.
Gary said the idea took root in conversations with cancer patients searching for a deeper understanding of healthy living and holistic care, conversations that planted the seeds for something much bigger than a garden.
That bigger vision now runs on what the farm calls its “4M” model: meals, movement, mindset, and medicine. Educational programs, hands-on gardening, and wellness initiatives all flow from that framework, giving visitors practical skills they can carry home long after they leave the farm.
Gary frames the mission in terms of food sovereignty and equal access to healthy living. “We’re just getting started,” Gary said. “We want to make sure that every person from our community has an opportunity to experience what wellness feels like and what it feels like for them.”
Farm manager Kuan Young tends to that vision day to day, overseeing gardens, orchards, and beehives that double as outdoor classrooms.
The property will be on full display this Friday, when Still Rise Farms opens its grounds from noon to 6 p.m. for a Juneteenth celebration.
Event organizer Angela Nutter kept her description of the holiday simple and direct: “Honestly, it’s community.”
Visitors can expect educational activities, a community art project, and plenty of room to simply enjoy the farm’s peaceful setting.
