When a top-10-ranked professional golfer needed a place to stay during the 2026 PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club, he didn’t book a hotel; he booked Greg Murray’s house.
Murray, a Delaware County entrepreneur and owner of GM Mechanical, Bernie’s Pretzels, and Murray’s Bar and Grille, walked away with a reported $50,000 to $100,000 after renting his St. David’s Road home, located less than half a mile from Aronimink’s entrance, for tournament week, according to Ryan Mulligan of the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The deal came together months in advance when the golfer’s agent reached out about leasing the property.
It wasn’t hard to see the appeal. The four-bedroom home boasts a newly renovated outdoor space complete with a cold plunge, sauna, pool, and a pool house featuring a full kitchen, wet bar, and fireplace, the kind of setup a touring professional would want to come home to after a long day on the course.
But getting the property tournament-ready was no small feat.
Murray overhauled the landscaping, replaced appliances, tightened security, and brought in professional cleaners. Then the golfer’s team took it a step further, removing all of Murray’s existing furniture and replacing it with brand-new pieces tailored to the player’s preferences.
Murray, meanwhile, headed to the Poconos for the week.
“The money was tough to refuse…so I figured, take the money and run,” he said.
He wasn’t alone. Dozens of homeowners near Aronimink reportedly cashed in during championship week, renting to players and tournament personnel through Rent Like A Champion, a sports-focused rental company turning major golf events into major paydays for savvy neighbors.
