David Simon, president and CEO of Simon Property Group, the owner of King of Prussia Mall, died at 64 on March 22 following a battle with cancer, according to a staff report from WUSA9.
Simon was “the singular leader who built Simon Property Group into the largest and most admired retail real estate company in the world,” said the company’s board of directors.
Simon Property Group, based in Indianapolis, has more than 250 property holdings throughout the nation, including the Montgomery County mall.
Simon is the son of co-founder Melvin Simon and nephew of co-founder Herb Simon. A graduate of Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business, he expanded the company to become the nation’s largest shopping mall owner.
“Our family is deeply grateful for the tremendous outpouring of love and support we have received from across the globe,” said the Simon family. “Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother poured his heart and soul into building Simon Property Group.”
Simon Property Group named Simon’s son Eli Simon as its new CEO and president.
