Sometimes the Wawa Sides Beat the Entrées, Sometimes Not

See which side dishes made the cut in the worst to best review.

Wawa may be best known for its hoagies and coffee, but frequent customers who have spent time ordering food at the kiosks can also delight in the convenience store’s numerous side dishes.

Here are Wawa’s nine worst to best sides, according to Chelsea Falin for the Daily Meal.

9. Seasoned black beans

“Not only did these ‘seasoned’ black beans taste like they’d never been near a spice, they were also dry,” Falin wrote.

8. Seasoned rice

Again, the seasoning seemed to be missing from dry rice that had almost no flavor.

7. Buffalo mac and cheese

Wawa does an excellent job on its buffalo sauce, but it loses points on pairing it well with the mac and cheese.

6. Mashed potatoes

This had a “delicious buttery scent with faint notes of starchy potato.”

5. Chili cheese fries

The chili was hearty and robust, the cheese rich and creamy, with a slight kick of heat.

4. Chili

A hearty complexity of sweet tomato, earthy seasonings, and savory soft beans and meat.

3. Garlic knots

“From the smell alone, these garlic knots promised lots of flavor — and boy, did they deliver,” she wrote.

2. Chicken noodle soup

A flavorful broth, thick noodles, hearty chicken chunks, and soft vegetables.

1. Cheesesteak loaded fries

The cheesesteak-loaded fries were “as mind-blowing as the chili cheese option was unremarkable,” Falin wrote. Generous amounts of thin-sliced cheesesteak meat, lots of gooey cheese, and fries that were soft, but not mushy.
