Restaurant Space in Newtown Back on the Market After Deal Falls Through

The space formerly housing Relic on State in Newtown is back on the market, searching for a new tenant after original plans fell through.

The former Relic on State restaurant space, located in a historic Newtown building that dates back to the American Revolution, is searching for its next tenant, writes Jeff Werner for the Patch.

Once again, Scott Hendrickson, the building’s owner, is looking for a restaurateur to step into the space at the corner of South State Street and Centre Avenue that previously housed Relic.

Relic closed unexpectedly ahead of Father’s Day 2025. The upscale New York-style steakhouse and bar, was launched by longtime restaurateur Greg Conlon in 2021 inside the three-story stone building following a significant investment in various interior renovations.

Following the restaurant’s closure, Hendrickson began searching for a new tenant and had a celebrity chef lined up to take over the space. However, amid ongoing renovations, the deal ultimately fell through due to personal reasons on the part of the investors.

“Now I’m back to square one, which is not what I thought was in the cards,” said Hendrickson. “But I’m forever an optimist, so I’m excited about finding a new opportunity.”

Spanning 4,500 square feet, the space currently has a 1,000-square-foot patio, two bars, two dining rooms, and more than 900 square feet that is allocated for storage.
