Longtime Voiceover Host Reflects on Three Decades at QVC

While she may not have planned on a decades-long voiceover career, QVC host Ellen Langas' voice has since become a network cornerstone.

While she may not have originally planned on a decades-long voiceover career, original QVC host Ellen Langas‘ voice has since become a network cornerstone, writes Gina Lizzo for Main Line Today.

Langas serves as the voice of West Chester-based QVC’s order line. She guides customers through the ordering process, recording full sentences or just a few words each week for products.

While she’s known for her voice now, Langas didn’t originally intend on being a voice performer. She first heard about QVC in 1986, when she was 28 years old and read a newspaper advertisement for a role as a TV host.

After a successful audition, she became one of the first on-air hosts when the channel launched later that year.

Reflecting on those foundational years, Langas said the QVC team developed a close camaraderie and enjoyed the early days of advertising products and taking orders.

But her role at QVC didn’t end with hosting. Simply curious about the sound of her own voice, she first spoke into a microphone as a test. After performing a commercial script in a sound booth, editors asked to use the recording, and she has continued recording commericals and hold messages ever since.

Now a celebrated speaker, writer, and marketing leader, Langas serves as vice president of BTC Marketing Communications and founder of NouSoma Communications while remaining true to her roots with weekly QVC recordings.
