Avelo Airlines is cutting four routes at Wilmington Airport as part of a broader restructuring, leaving Chester County travelers with fewer destination choices, writes Emma Dooling for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
Service between Wilmington Airport and Nashville, Jacksonville, Atlanta, and Chicago will be discontinued. The Nashville route will end at the close of January, and the seasonal summer route to Jacksonville will not launch this year.
Planned flights from the Delaware airport to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and Chicago O’Hare International Airport, scheduled to launch in February and March, respectively, have also been canceled.
The Houston-headquartered airline will still offer service to ten cities from Wilmington Airport, including Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Florida airports in Daytona Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Lakeland, Orlando, Sarasota, Tampa, and West Palm Beach.
The cuts are part of the company’s broader effort to streamline operations nationwide. Earlier this month, Avelo announced that it had been recapitalized, with the cash infusion directed toward network changes, including the closure of three bases in Arizona and North Carolina.
The airline will also remove six Boeing Next-Generation 737-700 aircraft from its fleet.
