Temple University is currently considering the options available for its underused 187-acre Ambler campus, including developing partnerships or potentially even selling the property, write John George and Ryan Mulligan for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
“It’s a beautiful place, obviously, but it is very underutilized,” said Temple University President John Fry.
Temple University has received around six responses to a summer request for proposals, inviting parties interested in collaborating with the university or independently looking to develop projects on the Ambler campus. The university aims to select a proposal over the coming weeks.
“We’re going to take a look and identify what’s the right path for the Ambler campus and who’s the right partner to work with,” said Fry.
He added that the university could explore a hybrid model, entering into a partnership to co-develop parts of the site and aiming to “drive some volume of activity and also generate additional revenue.”
The campus, which is located at 580 Meetinghouse Road in Upper Dublin Township, has been experiencing a significant decline in student enrollment over the last two decades. This decline was accelerated in 2021 when a tornado caused millions of dollars in damages across the campus.
