Newtown Girl Hosts Birthday Kickball Party to Benefit Pancreatic Cancer Research

Bridget Wittig of Newtown is hosting her annual kickball party to benefit pancreatic cancer research as she enters her teenage years.

Newtown’s Bridget Wittig is continuing her tradition of hosting a kickball party to benefit pancreatic cancer research as she enters her teenage years, writes Jeff Werner for the Patch.

Kickin’ For A Cause will raise funds for A Love For Life, a nonprofit based in Newtown supporting Penn Medicine’s pancreatic cancer research.

On Sunday, Bridget will take the field to honor her family, remembering PopPop Brian Wittig and her uncle, the Reverend Paul Quinter, and celebrating her Aunt Jacci, who has survived pancreatic cancer and continues to fight.

“My Pop Pop died of pancreatic cancer before I was born,” said Bridget. “I’m sad I never met him. I want to raise money to find cures so other families don’t lose loved ones to pancreatic cancer like my family did.”

Rather than receiving birthday gifts, Bridget has requested that her guests instead make donations to support cancer research.

“I’d rather have cures for cancer than more toys or clothes,” she said. “It’s really important to help others who are sick if you can. I felt really good raising money to help make that happen during my kickball party!”
