On Oct. 18, the Doylestown Historical Society is hosting Doylestown Celebrates USA 250 to honor America’s semiquincentennial anniversary, writes Ed Doyle for TAPinto Doylestown.
A celebration will take place from 12:30 to 4 PM at 56 South Main Street in the Doylestown Historical Society’s headquarters courtyard.
Town criers will provide the day’s news at the start of the celebration, and there will be a performance from a barbershop quartet. Guests will be able to enjoy free refreshments.
The event will also feature a special appearance by Benjamin Franklin. Lenni Lenape tribe members will also be present at an interactive table.
This kickoff event is a preview of what’s to come throughout the semiquincentennial celebration.
The society will be hosting several lectures throughout Central Bucks County and Doylestown, many of which will focus on food and drink from the time.
“We’re going to have an oyster night with a lecture about the importance of oysters in 1776,” said Ron Strouse, former mayor and current chairman of the society’s board.
“We’re going to have a brewery that will brew a beer similar to what was available in 1776,” he continued. “We’ll have an authority talking about the importance of beer back then.”
