A fundraiser is currently underway for Major, a ten-year-old boy from Levittown who tragically lost his hand and legs to a blood disease, writes JD Mullane for the Bucks County Courier Times.
Two months ago, Major was diagnosed with Strep A, which soon developed into toxic shock.
Major, a Walt Disney Elementary School student, was taken to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. He is currently home after seven weeks of recovery at CHOP, two of which were spent in intensive care.
Members of Pennsbury School District showed their support at a football game on Aug. 22, which was dedicated to Major.
“The kid was fishing and playing sports until he got sick,” said Tammy Kehan-Leimer, a district social worker. “He played Little League up until the minute he got sick.”
“Despite enduring unimaginable challenges, including a double amputation of his legs and the loss of his right arm, Major has faced his journey with remarkable resilience, positivity, and determination,” said the district’s cheer team in a statement.
His family set up a GoFundMe that, as of Sept. 4, has raised $62,420. Funds will be used to pay for medical expenses and the cost of the prosthetics Major will need.
