Historic Hotel in Lumberville Awarded $50,000 Grant to Renovate Building

Lumberville’s Black Bass Hotel recently received a grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and American Express to renovate.

Black Bass Hotel in Lumberville was recently named a recipient of a grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation and American Express, writes Jeff Werner for the Patch.

The organizations awarded the $50,000 grant to 50 restaurants throughout the U.S., the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico to help the businesses grow and renovate.

The hotel, considered one of the oldest inns in the country, will use the funds to restore the historic building.

“We are honored to receive this grant among so many incredible nominees. The Black Bass Hotel’s historic significance is part of what makes it so special to the local community and to the generations of families and friends who have visited over the years,” said the owner of the Black Bass Hotel, Karen Thompson.

The hotel was built in the 1740s and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The owners have restored and renovated the space over the centuries to ensure top service to their visitors.

Thompson will use the funds to restore the windows and recast the wrought iron railings on the balconies and decks.

“Countless beloved traditions, celebrations, and memories have been created here, and this grant will help us preserve not only the rich history, but also these cherished traditions for decades to come,” said Thompson.
