Bucks County has more drivers speeding through school zones and overtaking school buses than nearly every other county in the commonwealth, writes Chris Ullery for the Bucks County Courier Times.
Bucks County accounts for almost nine percent of school zone speeding tickets and nearly seven percent of citations for passing a school bus in the past five years, according to a news release from the PA Courts.
“As the new school year approaches, the Pennsylvania Courts wants to remind drivers to slow down in school zones, stop for school buses, and stay alert to help ensure the safety of our students,” states the release.
In school zones, drivers have to slow to 15 mph and stop at least ten feet behind a school bus whenever its red lights flash and side stop arms are deployed. Statewide, an estimated 22,502 drivers have received tickets for these two infractions since 2020.
Bucks County drivers received 1,845 tickets in total, including 512 for speeding and 1,333 for passing stopped school buses.
Montgomery County issued the most speeding tickets in the past five years, totaling 4,757, while Allegheny County issued the most tickets for passing a school bus, 1,338.
