Conshohocken-based ActiveProtective has launched the Tango Belt, a fall prevention device that has been approved by the Food and Drug Administration, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
According to ActiveProtective CEO Wamis Singhatat, the company opted to distribute the product directly as a licensed and accredited durable medical equipment distributor.
“We will be expanding state by state, starting with Pennsylvania and other select states,” said Singhatat. “The belt will be available nationwide over the next year.”
The Tango Belt is designed for older adults. It detects a serious fall in progress using advanced motion-sensing technology. It then deploys an airbag within milliseconds to cushion the hips and reduce the risk of injury. Approved in April as a prescription-only device, the belt is intended as an adjunct to standard care to lower the risk of hip injuries from falls.
The device was granted the “breakthrough device designation” by the FDA in 2023. Securing this expedited its review and assessment.
Since April, ActiveProtective has grown from 12 to 18 employees. It plans to expand to 26 before the end of the year and 50 by the end of 2026. Staffing will include people in sales, marketing, product support, and operations.
