Shapiro Administration Grants $700K to Bucks County Farms, Food Manufacturers

The Shapiro Administration is providing $700K in grants to three farms and food manufacturers in Bucks County.

The Shapiro Administration is providing $21 million in federally funded grants to 77 farms and food manufacturers across the Commonwealth, including three in Bucks County.

The funding comes through Pennsylvania’s Resilient Food Systems Infrastructure (RFSI) program, a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The program funds will increase capacity, drive growth and create opportunities throughout Pennsylvania’s food supply chain. They will support food processing, distribution and aggregation from multiple farms to help meet the demand for local, seasonal and fresh food.

Grantees received either an infrastructure grant for system-wide improvements or an equipment-only grant for critical upgrades and new purchases.

The grant provided Pie Bird Farm in Ottsville $99,261. Funds will help to expand cold storage and acquire processing equipment. The farm will also install a new rack-based system for baking, packaging and storage.

New Hope’s Manoff Market Cidery was given $100,000. The farm will use the funds to purchase a cider press and fermentation vessels to expand market access and improve quality, safety and output.

The program gave Derstine’s Foodservice in Sellersville $500,000. The company will invest the funds in cold storage and logistics equipment to help over 37 PA producers reach wholesale and institutional markets.
