Progress Continues in Pottstown: PAED Issues RFP for Pottstown’s Streetscape Design Plan

Pottstown launches new Streetscape Plan to revitalize its downtown, enhance public spaces, and celebrate the borough’s evolving identity.

Pottstown is taking another bold step toward revitalization with the launch of a new Streetscape Plan and Design initiative aimed at transforming its Downtown, Western Gateway, and Circle of Progress areas.

Led by Pottstown Area Economic Development (PAED), the project is now accepting proposals for a comprehensive design that will shape the borough’s future identity and enhance the everyday experience for residents and visitors alike.

Funded through a 2024 Local Share Account (LSA) grant—powered by gaming revenues allocated to community development—the plan seeks to create a cohesive visual identity while celebrating the unique character of each district. Proposed improvements include uniform signage, bike racks, gathering spaces, public art, landscaping, lighting, and other elements that promote walkability and civic pride.

“This is more than beautification,” said Peggy Lee-Clark, Executive Director of PAED. “It’s about shaping a downtown experience that attracts people, supports local businesses, and reflects Pottstown’s evolving identity.”

The initiative draws from long-range recommendations by the Urban Land Institute’s 2019 Advisory Services report, which emphasized placemaking, wayfinding signage, and reactivating underutilized spaces. It builds on ULI’s past work in the borough dating back to 1976.

As a community once rooted in heavy industry,

has continued its progress in adapting to modern economic trends. Since 1965, PAED has worked to attract investment, restore vacant properties, create job opportunities, and strengthen the local tax base.
